“The Blue Moon” is a world renowned Restaurant and Bar located in Rehoboth Beach Delaware.

A “blue moon” is a month with two full moons. August 1 was a full moon, and today August 31 is the second full moon or the “blue moon”.  The last “blue moon” was in March 2010, and we won’t see another one until July 2015. Of course, the moon isn’t actually blue, either. Some consider a “blue moon” to be good luck while others may consider it to be bad luck. Here at “The Blue Moon” it is always considered good luck!!

“Blue Moon” is also a classic popular song that was written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934. The song has been covered by artists such as Billie Holiday, Mel Torme, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, Bobby Vinton, Dean Martin, Julie London, Sha Na Na, The Mavericks and Frank Sinatra.

The lyrics presumably refer to an English idiomatic expression: “once in a blue moon” means “very rarely”. The narrator of the song is relating a stroke of luck so unlikely that it must have taken place under a blue moon. The title relies on a play on words, since blue is also the color of melancholy, and indeed the narrator is sad and lonely until he finds love.

The Song has also been used in many movies and musical productions. Probably the most famous movie was “American Graffiti” followed by “Grease” and then “An American Werewolf  in London”.
